The Second Annual Science Art Contest
Science Says is excited to present the second annual science art contest in conjunction with our sponsors: the UC Davis Center for Mind and Brain and the UC Davis Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute. Submissions open January 3 and close January 31. Voting will take place February 2-16, with winners announced February 23.
What counts as art? Photography, crafts, paintings, microscopy...get creative!
Introduction to Science Policy
Science Says is expanding into science policy! Richard Tran is hosting an introduction to this special area of science communication on January 13th at 1pm.

In association with UC Berkeley CLEAR and SciComm@UCR, Science Says is launching a speaker series that will cover a variety of science communication topics, starting with Becky Mackelprang on science policy on January 18th from 4pm-5pm.
Science Art Night & Fundraiser
On January 20th at 5:30pm, we're partnering with Dunloe Brewing in Davis to host a science art night and fundraiser. We'll be leading some arts and crafts activities while enjoying drinks and good company. Come join us!
Book Club Will Return in January
Our remote book club will return January 19th at 6:00pm to read How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan. Join us over the winter and spring quarters.

Welcome, NeuWrite Davis!
Science Says is excited to announce the launch of our new writing and workshopping group: NeuWrite Davis. We plan to host regular meetings to workshop/give feedback on each others' broad-audience writing, discuss science communication tools and techniques, and share our writing through blog posts or other media. We aim to involve scientists and writers from a range of domains and levels of expertise. We welcome members from any aspect of the UC Davis community to join.
Volunteer with Us!
Science Says is participating in North Bay Science Discovery Day and UC Davis Picnic Day in 2022, in addition to other opportunities under development. We are looking for volunteers to join us in our mission to share science in an accessible manner.
iBiology's Share Your Research Competition Returns!
The Share Your Research competition is a science communication training program from iBiology, in partnership with the Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation and the Rita Allen Foundation. It is a great opportunity for Ph.D. students, post-docs and early-career faculty to improve their science communication skills and share their research with iBiology's global audience.
Participants in the 2022 competition must apply to be selected. Eight winners will attend a series of virtual science communication workshops in late April 2022. After this training, participants will record their new 20-minute talks at home with the help of iBiology's professional video team, and their talks will be promoted through iBiology's Share Your Research video series. All iBiology videos are open access and reach a global audience of 133k+ followers.
Applications are open until January 15, 2022.
CCST Fellowship is open!
The CCST Science and Technology Fellowship is a prestigious placement for science communicators interested in science policy. Selected fellows are placed on the staff of a California policy maker in the California State Legislature and Executive Branch for one year. Science Says has had several alumni participate in this rewarding program. Applications are due in March.
